Jeff Bezos, founder, CEO and president of Amazon, the company that is regarded as one of the Big Four IT companies, announced that he is committing $10 bn to start the fight against negatively influencing climatic change. This initiative has been termed as Bezos Earth Fund and will begin giving out funds starting this summer.

He said he’s ready to go even higher in his endeavour to reserve capital for scientists, activists, and firms that are trying to assuage man-made emissions, responsible for global warming. It is said that the funding for this purpose, accounting for 8% of his net worth, is his biggest donation so far. Also, this is one of the biggest charitable pledges ever made. Consequently, Jeff Bezos, who is currently the richest person in the world might lose this position, but will certainly make a lasting influence. He mentioned in his post “Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet. I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change.”

In September 2020, Amazon announced an initiative that was named ‘Shipment Zero,’ a pledge to achieve 100% zero carbon by 2040. The company has planned to procure 100,000 electric delivery vans, the largest such fleet in history. The company is also substituting recyclable paper with plastic bubble wrap and is planning to dispatch goods in a single box, instead of using boxes within a box.
