Huawei has launched the first-ever US regional center for the Asia-Pacific region, worth $40 million, for the testing of mobile applications and services.

Named as DigiX Lab, the center facilitates hands-on-support for application development using both online and offline consulting, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and software technologies to port apps to Huawei devices.

The launch follows the US ban of the tech giant since May 2019, leading to the development of Huawei’s own platform, Huawei Mobile Services (HMS).

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the HMS team has witnessed a three-fold growth. The size of the team is said to be more than 650 employees, including mostly locals.

In a statement, the Chief Executive of Huawei International, Mr. Nicholas Ma remarked that the lab in the Changi Business Park has enabled in doubling down the company’s growth in Singapore.

The Singapore DigiX Lab is the tech company’s second and serves markets in the Asia-Pacific region like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Over $40 million is likely to be spent on the lab over the few years for the hiring of technical experts, networking, construction and maintenance of the physical DigiX Lab.
