Technology giant Microsoft Corporation is set to acquire Discord, a popular Slack-like video-game chat community, for over $10 billion.

According to reports, Discord has been in talks with potential buyers and Microsoft is one of them, although the deal isn’t public.

Microsoft is planning to expand its gaming business and Discord acquisition would be the latest and biggest fit with the company’s existing businesses, following the purchase of ZeniMax last year and the popular game “Minecraft” in 2014.

Adding Discord to the likes of Microsoft’s Xbox Live Service and its subscription-based Game Pass Service would be highly beneficial for the tech giant, making it a big player among the rivals.

The chat platform is supposedly in talks with Amazon and Epic Games on a similar deal. As reported by Venturebeat on March 22, several companies were interested in buying Discord.

In a funding round led by Greenoaks Capital last year, Discord had raised $140 million that raised its valuation of $7 billion. With over 100 million monthly active users, the platform is easily the default social network for video gamers.
