Greta Thunberg Foundation Donates 100,000 Euros for COVID-19 Vaccine Equity

Greta Thunberg, a Swedish climate and environment activist, has donated 100,000 euros via her foundation in support of the COVAX scheme, as a part of the collective effort to inoculate people all over the world, including people with underlying medical conditions, older people, and health workers.

This donation made to the World Health Organization will address the purchase of vaccines for healthcare workers of underdeveloped nations and vulnerable populations.

In a statement, the 18-year-old Greta Thunberg stated that the international community must do more in order to address the vaccine inequity situation. Just as with the climate crisis, we need to help the most vulnerable first, she added.

COVAX is co-led by the World Health Organization, alongside the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and the Gavi vaccine alliance. The scheme will ensure access to vaccines for the 92 poorest participating countries.

Director-General of WHO Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus extended gratitude to Thunberg for her advocacy through her foundation in support of vaccine equity.

As per an AFP count, around 900 million doses of the coronavirus vaccines have been injected in nearly 206 territories globally.
