Amazon has declared a re-launch of Egypt’s Souq.com (an online portal for Egyptian shoppers) as Amazon.eg, on 1st September 2021.

The website confirmed that the portal would feature an array of products from international and local brands and vendors. The items will be classified into several categories including – apparel, home & kitchen, electronics, grocery, Amazon products, and devices like Kindle.

The pre-existing wish lists, delivery addresses, customer credentials, orders, customer support queries, and payment methods from the Souq.com portal will be effectively transmitted to the newly re-launched portal’s accounts safely.

Customers, both new and old, coming from the Souq.com portal or the Amazon portal outside of Egypt can fully utilize the newly re-launched portal in Egypt by logging in to the mobile application and choosing ‘Egypt’ from the settings hyperlink, stated Amazon.

The online shopping portal also stated that end-users could also visit the newly re-launched portal through a desktop or mobile browser. The application and the web portal will deliver a speedy and wholesome browsing experience in Arabic and English languages. The portal will also deliver accurate search results, provide personalized recommendations, reveal trusted product reviews, and facilitate simple management. All these benefits are backed by Amazon’s famously known customer service ethics.

On 31st August 2021, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly graced the inaugural ceremony of the Amazon Fulfillment Center in the Sharkia Governorate, in the presence of Minister of Communications and Information Technology – Dr. Amr Talaat, the Governor of Sharkia & Counselor – Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab, the CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) – Mohamed Abdel Wahab, and the Minister of Trade and Industry – Nevin Gamea.

The revamped fulfillment center spans an area of 28,000 square meters and is a part of the firm’s investments in the Egyptian logistics sector. It will facilitate a faster, smarter, and more efficient experience for consumers.

The re-launch of Souq.com as Amazon.eg

The re-launch of Souq.com as Amazon.eg marked a new beginning for the online shopping portal. Amazon (Egypt) Country Manager, Omar Elsahy, stated that the two firms have been tirelessly working towards the re-launching and took great pride in this endeavor. Elsahy also mentioned that Souq.com’s local expertise coupled with the online shopping mogul’s global experience would prove to be of significant value to Egyptian consumers.

Omar Elsahy also stated that this endeavor was only a gateway towards more fruitful innovations. The firm strives to create meaningful experiences for its consumers. Amazon Egypt staunchly focused on excellent customer service, great prices, faster delivery systems, and a versatile product range for the benefit of its users.

The Amazon.eg portal is completely localized to provide the Egyptian consumers with a spellbound experience. It allows shoppers to select their favorite products and purchase the cart items in Egyptian Pounds (EGP) via debit, credit, and prepaid cards (both Visa and Mastercard variants will be made available). Additionally, the portal will also offer a Cash on Delivery (COD) option.

The newly re-launched portal will also provide customers with free delivery benefits on all orders that cross the EGP 350 benchmark. Same-Day and Next-Day delivery options will also be made available across several cities in Egypt. Dependable delivery and shipment tracking will be assured owing to Amazon’s global experience in the domain. The firm will continue to improvise and invest in methods that will enhance the delivery experience for consumers.

The newly re-launched portal will be accessible to consumers with a 24/7 customer service support helpline and chatbox, which will help users with any queries. If any product that is sold on the portal is unsatisfactory, consumers can file a report of the problem to the customer service support team for solving their issue. All products that are purchased on Amazon.eg will maintain and are covered with the Amazon A-to-Z Guarantee. This guarantee hallmark will cover satisfactory delivery timing and satisfactory condition of all products that are ordered on the shopping portal.

The Egyptian Amazon encompasses local personnel of more than 3,000 employees in all their corporate, operations, and customer service domains. The operational offices are also maturing in their infrastructure. These numbers are inclusive of the employees in the Amazon Fulfillment Center, in all the associated offices, and the fifteen delivery stations across Alexandria, Tanta, Cairo, Assiut, and Ismailia.
