Quectel launches new connectivity-as-a-service initiative in 2022

Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global provider of IoT solutions, is building on a successful EMEA roll-out of its Connectivity-as-a-Service (CaaS). It is now launching global connectivity sales in the Asia Pacific region.

This new launch complements the firm’s heritage of allowing customers to simplify their edge-based deployments by purchasing SIM cards and connectivity management tools alongside modules, antennas, and design services. The launch also provides innovative modules and antennas to support cellular applications. Adding connectivity broadens the company’s portfolio and helps its customers to simplify their journey of designing, building, connecting, and commercialising their IoT offerings.

The firm’s connectivity solutions is now available in more than 190 countries by over 500 network operators and currently offers 2G, 3G, 4G, NB-IoT, and Cat-M connections. Their connectivity is accessible across the market and will benefit deployments that can attain accelerated time-to-market and enhanced business competencies from using a single supplier for module, antenna, and connectivity.

Quectel’s SIM offerings

Embedded and integrated SIM (eSIM and iSIM) is now widely adopted, and the firm has recently launched the new BG773A-GL ultra-compact LTE Cat M1, NB1, and NB2 module that offers integrated SIM (iSIM) support. The iSIM capabilities of this new module deliver incredible flexibility and simplicity for integrators and IoT service providers, thus simplifying customer deployments that earlier would have required installing and managing a traditional SIM card in the local market. Furthermore, through an eSIM or iSIM empowered module and the Quectel Connectivity, the module will connect to the best available network once powered up.

The Director of Global Connectivity, Richard Hart, stated that Quectel’s connectivity is built on the backbone of service, quality, and reliability, backed by Tier 1 providers and robust service level agreements (SLAs). He mentioned that their focus is on providing commercial flexibility for their customers and ensuring they receive high-quality connectivity that enables their IoT solutions to consumers, regardless of where they are in the world. Additionally, using self-optimising tariffs reduces the risk of additional costs when issues such as over-the-air (OTA) software updates utilise extra bandwidth and therefore avoid bill shock.

Furthermore, to its long-standing global expertise in modules and antennas, Quectel also has significant experience in connectivity.

Michael Wallon, Vice President of Sales, APAC and ANZ at Quectel, observed that the QuecConnectivity platform already administers more than 30 million SIMs in Asia. Furthermore, he stated that their module and antenna offering could be combined with Connectivity-as-a-Service, thus providing customers with a single-entry point into Quectel’s entire portfolio of products and services.

By adding connectivity to their capabilities, Quectel would reduce the complexity for their customers by simplifying and accelerating IoT device deployment, stated Patrick Qian, CEO of Quectel.
