The Moon Resort is an AED 18 billion ($5 billion) lunar-inspired resort set to launch in Dubai. Designed by Canadian-based Moon World Resorts Inc., this spectacular property features a 735-foot replica of Earth’s only satellite and offers a 10-acre lunar colony for visitors. With its enchanting design, the resort estimates that it would bring for about 10 million guests annually and can be completed by 2026 or 2027.

The resort was proposed and founded by Sandra G. Matthews and Michael R. Henderson. Moon Dubai would be the MENA’s biggest and most prosperous contemporary tourist venture.

According to Henderson, the emirate’s economy will be significantly encapsulated by “Moon Dubai.’’ This comprises of tourism, transportation, commercial and residential real estate, infrastructure, financial services, aviation and space, energy, MICE, agriculture, technology, and education. Henderson also said that this would firmly ingrain the UAE flag into the forefront of space exploration, attracting millions of space enthusiasts from all over the world to explore all that Dubai has to offer.

According to Moon World Resorts Inc., the most innovative state-of-the-art antibacterial air technology, vitamin-infused filtered water systems, and conveniences that are recyclable, biodegradable, eco-friendly and non-toxic, that are not tested on animals’ products will all be encompassed in the suites. The modern cutting-edge technology will be included in the suites.

In the year 2000, Sandra G. Matthews and Michael R. Henderson, first started Moon World Resorts, at the time several private space exploration businesses were launched. Jeff Bezos’s BlueOrigins was founded in 2000, Elon Musk’s SpaceX in 2002, and Virgin Galactic in 2004. Henderson had stated that Space is tough. It has taken Blue Origin, SpaceX, and Virgin Galactic until now to really get ideas going, the Moon World Resorts is no different, he states. Fortunately, MOON has one massive marketing benefit as it inches further into the global marketplace.

Recreating the moon

Henderson told Khaleej Times that the project is massive, extremely complex and entirely unique.

A carbon fibre composite material would be used in the construction which is extremely strong and durable. The project would be incorporated with solar cells to generate power. The material would be used to create the facade of the building to best replicate the moon and its craters. The surface will be illuminated, and can be used to depict the various phases of the moon with multiple display options similar to the Burj Khalifa light shows. The entire building can become the UAE flag, Henderson added.

MWR proposes to license four Moon Destination Resorts around the world: One each in Europe, North America, MENA and Asia.

The company puts the construction budget at AED 18 billion ($5 billion), with an annual revenue projection of AED 6.6 billion ($1.8 billion). He further stated that the fully integrated resort will be operated at a five-diamond level and constructed to a LEED Gold five-star standard.

Regional licensees indicate to have moon developed resort as a central focal point surrounded by a mixed-use community, similar to the association between the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai.

Henderson promises a seemingly never-ending expedition inside the Moon. The resort’s signature attraction will enable guests to experience walking on the lunar surface while exploring a massive occupied lunar colony.

Visitors will also be able to suit up as astronauts and experience a degree of lightness on the resort’s lunar surface. The astronaut suit that the visitors would be wearing on the lunar surface will provide them with a certain percentage of gravity reduction, he said, additionally, a water tank and cable system will offer a full zero-gravity sensation.

There is also one ultra-cool experience advertised by the MWR on its social network platforms: An exceptional hop-on, hop-off lunar rover that would take guests round the resort’s authentic lunar colony.
