Nokia bags multi-year deal with Jio to set up AirScale 5G portfolio

Reliance Jio has one of the world’s largest RAN networks

Nokia wins a multi-year deal with India’s Reliance Jio, the country’s leading mobile operator to supply 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) from its AirScale portfolio to build one of the world’s largest 5G networks. The Finnish company will supply equipment that includes base stations, Remote Radio Heads (RRH), and high-capacity 5G massive MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) antennas to maintain self-organizing network software and support different spectrum bands. Reliance Jio has one of the world’s largest RAN networks in the world. India’s telecommunications firm plans to install a 5G standalone network that will interfuse with its 4G network.

Nokia in a statement announced that the deal would help Reliance Jio to deliver sophisticated 5G use cases for Industry 4.0 that require ultra-low latency and substantial machine-to-machine communications along with supporting 5G network slicing. The firm on its official Twitter account stated that they are proud to have been chosen by Reliance Jio for its AirScale 5G portfolio, “to build one of the largest networks in the world, helping bring advanced 5G services to millions of people and industrial customers across India”.

 

Nokia recently announced its expansion plans in Canada as part of the company’s aim to aid the world to act together. The firm announced its plans to transform Nokia’s Ottawa facility into a leading sustainable research and development hub. Partnering with the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, and the city of Ottawa Nokia aims to build cutting-edge labs and infrastructure at the new tech center.

This center will expand and transform Nokia Canada’s capability in next-generation cyber security innovation and information and communications technology (ICT). The company plans to begin the construction of the site in the year 2023 and expects to finish it by 2026 creating around 300 new high-value jobs and attracting global talent to Canada.

Chairman Reliance Jio, Akash Ambani commented “We are pleased to be working with Nokia for our 5G SA deployment in India”, along with adding remarks on the commitment of the company to infuse the latest network technologies that enrich the clientele experience.

With Ambani’s comments on the partnership delivering advanced 5G networks globally, Pekka Lundmark, President, and CEO of Nokia add on the deal’s capability to bring premium 5G services to millions of people across India. “Our AirScale portfolio will help deliver next-generation connectivity to consumers and businesses and drive the digital transformation of Indian industries “, says Pekka Lundmark. Nokia has a long-standing presence in India and with the deal, the telecommunications firm will be a provider to India’s largest three mobile operators.
