iCAD, the leading medical technology provider, on Monday announced a strategic development and commercialization agreement with Google Health to incorporate its AI (artificial intelligence technology) into iCAD’s portfolio of breast imaging AI solutions. This partnership will mark Google Health’s first commercial agreement and introduce its breast imaging AI into clinical practice.

iCAD and google Health will work together to promote iCAD’s leading breast-cancer AI solutions for mammography along with providing access to millions of women across the world. The firm will also utilize Google Cloud, thus boosting the medical technology provider’s cloud-hosted offerings.

The president and Chief Executive Officer of iCAD, Stacey Stevens mentions that the partnership with Google marks one of the important alliances for the US based firm, utilizing Google’s AI and Cloud technology will enhance the ability of the firm’s breast AI technologies and accelerate the adoption and expand access on a global scale.

Under the agreement, Google has licensed its AI technology for personalized risk assessment and breast cancer to iCAD. The firm will apply the licensed technology to advance 3D and 2D algorithms and will commercialize the developed products.  “Google Health is our cross-company initiative to use technology to help everyone, everywhere be healthier – and collaborating with leading-edge companies like iCAD is a key part of this strategy,” said Greg Corrado, Head of Health AI, Google.

Medical Assistance through Technology

iCAD’s Breast AI Suite is an extensive portfolio of medically proven technologies for density assessment, and breast cancer detection, along with providing short-term risk evaluations. Under the present partnership, the firm will authenticate and integrate Google Health’s mammography AI technology into its Breast AI Suite with the aim of supporting patients’ cancer journeys.

According to experts, even though 3D mammography is growing and is being increasingly used in different parts of the world, many countries still opt for 2D mammography which could create many challenges.
