Apple GPT is the new player in the AI industry and has been silently working on the artificial intelligence tools that are currently leading the sector. The company had created a chatbot service and is yet to formulate a clear strategy for releasing the technology.  According to Bloomberg reports, the company had built its framework to create large language models. This will be an AI-based system similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.

With the introduction of ChatGPT, Bard, and Microsoft’s Bing,  Apple was put in the spotlight and it is not wrong to say that the company had some pressures to keep up in the race. This all happened during a time when Apple’s artificial intelligence product Siri voice assistant had become lifeless in recent years. The multinational tech company is however progressing in other AI-related areas including advancements to search on phones.

The latest iPhone series that will be releasing later this year will have a smarter version of auto-correct. Apple CEO Tim Cook had been cautious about AI services and had mentioned that the technology had to sort out several issues. Apple, however, will be adding AI to more of its products.

The tech firm could potentially lose revenues if it doesn’t keep up as Generative AI transforms the way people engage with technology. The company had developed a framework called Ajax and with this framework, Apple is laying the foundation for AI services. Ajax was first created last year to unify the machine learning development at Apple. Apple’s chatbot was created as an experiment and the rollout was halted over security concerns about generative AI. But Generative AI is used by the employees to help in product prototyping.

According to Bloomberg reports, Apple employees state that Apple GPT could be seen as a replica of ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing and doesn’t have any special features that set it apart from the rest. The system is currently available in the form of a web application and the company is not planning to release it for public consumption any time soon. The consumer angle for the Generative AI is yet to be decided and they are also working on several related initiatives such as a cross-company effort with its software engineering and AI groups along with its cloud services engineering team.

Apple had conducted an open trial of ChatGPT around the time when they were developing their tools. The company also considered signing a much bigger contract with OpenAI. The Ajax system that is developed is built on top of Google Jax and Apple’s system runs on Google Cloud. Experts weigh in their opinion and suggest that Siri would be the best place to integrate the LLM technology, which will allow the voice assistant to conduct more tasks. Siri was launched years back and Apple recently has been focusing more on the advancement of its other aspects.

Tim Cook, in May, supported the company’s AI strategy and stated that the technology is used in much of its product lineup including features like fall detection and car crash. Even though LLM is a promising advancement in the tech landscape, the chances of misinformation and bias are quite high, warned Cook. He also emphasised the importance of bringing in regulations in the area.

The artificial intelligence efforts of the company gained momentum by hiring Giannandrea, who led AI at Google previously. A new health coaching service is already lined up as one of the company’s future projects. The future electric car by the company will use artificial intelligence to power the vehicle’s capabilities. Apple shares also increased as much as 2.3% after the reports of its AI efforts came out.
