Meta Platforms Inc., the technology conglomerate that was formerly known as Facebook Inc., on 10th November 2021 declared a collaboration with Microsoft that will let consumers include Meta Platforms’ Workplace initiative social network software into Microsoft Teams.

The inclusion allows consumers to access Workplace content within the Teams application. Similarly, users can access Teams video meetings within the Workplace application.

The collaboration betwixt Meta Platforms and Microsoft brings together two competitors in the communication software market. Teams and Workplace do not wholly intersect. Whilst Workplace is targeted on widespread company connections, Teams is targeted on swift communication betwixt workers and their immediate colleagues.

The Meta Platforms and Microsoft collaboration

The Microsoft Teams inclusion within Workplace will also permit employees utilizing Workplace or Teams to comment, view, and react to meetings in real-time with no necessity to shift between applications.

Microsoft Teams users will be able to access Workplace material via an application etched with Teams. The application can be optionally pinned onto the Microsoft Teams navigation bar and will possess a homepage of the Workplace material. Microsoft Teams administrators will also be allowed to highlight materials or content that are essential, to display it in the Workplace application.

Jeff Teper, head of the Microsoft 365 collaboration, stated that the one thing he had learnt was that there was not going to be a solitary communications portal on Earth. Individuals are going to pick and choose a plethora of tools, Taper stated. Hence, he indicated that as accountable vendors of communication services, it was essential that firms had to integrate and collaborate to provide top-notch services to consumers.

The collaboration could testify to be most advantageous to Meta Platforms. Its Workplace portal radically holds up behind its rivals in terms of the consumer base.

Workplace declared in May 2021 that it possessed 7 million paid subscribers. In July 2021, Microsoft proclaimed that its Teams service possessed 250 million monthly active users. Salesforce subsidiary Slack Technologies no longer reveals user statistics, however, the firm stated that it had 12 million daily active users in September 2019. Slack Technologies’ number of paid subscribers surged to around 39% to 167,000 in June 2021.
