In a recent statement, Cognizant announced an alliance with Microsoft to offer a virtual healthcare solution for remote patient monitoring, in an effort to improve delivery of medical care.

Utilizing aspects of the Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare, Cognizant’s new solution is the first of several planned offerings of the venture that will combine remote patient monitoring and virtual health, entailing the use of smart watches, glucometers, and blood pressure monitors, to collate patient health data to service providers.

Using this platform, providers will be able to cross-reference patient health information to gain patient insights, and potentially identify early warning signs of chronic conditions to allow scope for preventive measures. In addition to this feature, the remote capabilities of the platform can be deployed for telehealth visits, thereby removing demographic and geographical barriers for accessibility. The system will also improve current levels of personal care, and enable professionals to provide time-sensitive interventions. Chronic diseases are expected to account for over deaths globally by 2030, and digital innovations are increasingly being seen as the way forward in the identification, treatment and management of illnesses.

The cutting-edge healthcare endeavor by Cognizant is backed by its dedicated Microsoft Business Group, which combines its expertise in digital modernization, with Microsoft’s endeavor to build Industry Clouds. These clouds will allow the delivery of a seamless, commercially viable and comprehensive healthcare solutions.

Cognizant plans new series of healthcare innovations

The new innovative solution is the first in a planned series of digital healthcare innovations by Cognizant while enhancing its client offerings. The endeavor is aimed at implementing advanced healthcare technology to enhance personalized care and increase patient involvement, at the same time providing remote patient monitoring, and improved patient outcomes. Future offerings by the company utilize existing technologies, platforms and systems, allowing for easy expedition of systems by healthcare providers.

Head of Cognizant Healthcare, Surya Gummadi, stated that technology and healthcare combine to allow healthcare providers to monitor patients in real-time and facilitate time-sensitive interventions whenever and wherever required. He also said that the use of data analytics, inter-operability solutions and secure cloud technology in association with Microsoft provides a scalable and unique healthcare solution that will connect service providers with patients to enhance the timeliness, personalization and quality of healthcare.

Speaking on the alliance, Corporate VP, Global Healthcare and Lifesciences, Microsoft Tom McGuinness said that the new virtual healthcare solution offered by the companies is built on the secure, compliant Microsoft Cloud. This offers ease-of-use for patients to share data with providers using their personal devices, while at the same time ensuring that service providers have all the data they require to provide diagnostic interventions. He also said that the two companies would strive to provide additional solutions that offer quality healthcare to ensure the well-being of patients.
