Oman Telecommunications Company has launched the country’s first 400GbE Data Center Interconnect solution (DCI)

Data centers require significantly more data transmission throughput than what is required by non-enterprise customers. Keeping this in mind, Oman Telecommunications Company has launched the country’s first 400GbE Data Center Interconnect solution (DCI), enabling data centers to exchange data faster and more efficiently. Cloud service providers, streaming content broadcast companies, and enterprise customers would greatly benefit from this ultra-high-speed ethernet connection solution.

Omantel has partnered with Ciena to develop this DCI solution. Ciena uses its flagship 6500 Packet-Optical Networking platform, specifically designed for ethernet aggregation and ultra-fast connectivity. Powered by Wavelogic 5 Extreme, the overall solution has the capacity to handle extremely high bandwidth with little to no lag.

The solution from Ciena enables Omantel to offer a 100G transceiver solution and the country’s first 400GbE DCI service. The 400GBE DCI platform enables Omantel to offer data transfer speed to the tune of 800 GB/S.

Sohail Qadri, the Vice President of Wholesale at Omantel commented on this exciting development. He said that Omantel’s vision is to make Oman the gateway to the Middle East and beyond. Omantel, Qadri said, is committed to making this vision a reality and the addition of this new 400 GbE DCI is another step towards that golden future.

It is to be noted here that Omantel had already partnered with Equinix to build a low-latency data center serving as a connection point between global markets in Asia and Europe. With the addition of this DCI solution, the issues of transmission speed and quality have been adequately addressed.

One of the major achievements of Omantel and Ciena was the fact that the set-up has been built in a future-proof way. They have been able to increase the wavelength transmission speed from 400G to 800G without the need for any additional platforms.

Understanding Data Centre Interconnect:

Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) technology connects two or more data centres enabling them to work in sync and act as the backup of the original servers. A second server also makes load balancing easier. DCIs play a huge role in this day and age with internet users and the volume of application data and databases increasing. It empowers data centres to seamlessly connect with other data centres in the city or even halfway across the world. DCI supports multiple connection types, which makes it extremely flexible to work with. In terms of security as well, DCI provides a robust encryption solution. Ultra-high bandwidth and ultra-low latency ae what DCI solutions aim to achieve.
