Huawei has proposed to introduce an AirPON solution for areas with low population density which also includes remote areas

Huawei signs the global ITU pledge to help 120 million people and made a global commitment to the International Telecommunication Union’s Partner2connect digital alliance that helps in bringing connectivity to 120 million people from 80 countries, residing in remote areas by the year 2025. The decision was announced at the company’s 2022 Sustainability Forum, Connectivity +: Innovate for Impact by Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei.

The forum focused on how ICT innovation could bring forward and increase the potential of the business and social value of connectivity and ‘drive sustainability in the digital economy era’, read the company’s official statement. ITU Deputy Secretary-General Malcolm Johnson stated that connectivity is not the only factor to be taken into consideration, but for people to actively make use of the resources, it must be affordable, the content must be relevant, and must be in the local language along with the required skill to make the best use of it.

“Thank you to Huawei for their support of the Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Coalition, and for their announced P2C pledges in the key areas of rural connectivity and digital skills,” Malcolm Johnson. Speakers at the event included senior leaders from the United Nations and ITU, telecom ministers and regulators in Cambodia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Pakistan, and experts, business leaders, partners, and customers from South Africa, Belgium, China, and Germany.

The United Nations resident coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee called for multi-stakeholder partnerships from various sectors including academia, policymakers, the private sector, and civil society to bring an end to the digital divide that excludes a third of the global population. “Our dynamic world urgently needs improved digital cooperation to capitalize on the transformational potential of technology to create new jobs, boost financial inclusion, close the gender gap, spur a green recovery and redesign our world to be more prosperous and inclusive,” says Siddharth Chatterjee.

The construction of optical broadband networks offers an important route to achieving universal service. Huawei has proposed to introduce an AirPON solution for areas with low population density which also includes remote areas. This helps in reducing the footprint of optical fiber installation costs, the footprint of equipment rooms, and network power consumption along with the implementation of local communication networks.

The Chairman of Huawei, Dr. Liang emphasized that receiving a stable network was a basic right and a necessity in the digital era and for people who are in remote areas, a proper connection would be the first step in transforming their lives. “Together with digital technologies like cloud and AI, connectivity will help bring everyone into the digital world, and provide them with access to more information and skills, better services, and wider business opportunities. This will, in turn, drive further social and economic development,” said Dr.Liang.

Digital talent, digital transformation, and businesses base are all important for the development of remote areas, and the firm announced that by the year 2025, with the ICT infrastructure, Huawei will work with its partners to enable millions of people to enjoy digital financial services and have opportunities for inclusive education.

Huawei has laid more than 200,000 kilometers of optical fibers, empowering 30 million households to access high-speed broadband in Africa. User experience has seen steady progress. The average speed of home broadband exceeds 30 Mbit/s, bringing a faster, smarter, and smoother home network experience. The evolving ICT infrastructure will enable technologies like cloud and AI in remote areas to have the convenience of the digital world. Huawei cloud has proposed the ‘Everything’ as a  service strategy and made the years of the firm’s digital transformation and technical expertise available through cloud service.

Huawei is dedicated to having inclusive development. Through its continuing technological innovation, the company is contributing to a higher level of digitalization in remote regions, enabling everyone to enjoy the convenience of digital life, and promoting the stable expansion of the global digital economy
