Amazon and LuLu group aims to combine their best practices, logistics innovation, tech expertise, the knowledge of customers to derive an optimised operational efficiency and accelerate delivery

Amazon UAE announced an alliance with the Lulu Group, a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Abu Dhabi, on Wednesday, November 23, to facilitate innovation in commerce. The agreement aims to provide an elevated grocery offering topping it up with a speedy and convenient delivery service to customers in UAE. According to a media statement issued yesterday, both companies have teamed up to offer an extensive selection of products, including everyday essentials and fresh groceries, at optimal prices, along with swift delivery.

Amazon and LuLu group aims to combine their best practices, logistics innovation, tech expertise, the knowledge of customers to derive an optimised operational efficiency and accelerate delivery; this will help provide a novel experience to customers in UAE, giving the people what they want whilst making their grocery ‘run.’

Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, highlights the importance of such collaborations stating this is what UAE and Abu Dhabi are seeking by playing host to private sector corporations as it boosts innovation. Customers are delivered more modernised, and seamless experiences, and the economy develops a sustainable and supported business ecosystem that transforms Abu Dhabi into a preferred destination for business and investments. He congratulated the companies hoping this collaboration would help both of them achieve a new zenith in serving UAE residents.

LuLu is one of the largest retail chains in the Middle East, operating a chain of supermarkets, supermarkets and malls in the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some Asian countries. In the coming weeks, the new facility will be rolling out for customers through the LuLu storefront on Amazon.ae, even though LuLu has its own online store. This partnership will also ensure LuLu’s presence in the e-commerce world in a country where hybrid ‘phydigital’ and online shopping is burgeoning.

The vice president of Amazon Middle East and North Africa, Ronaldo Mouchawar, mentions their pride to be working alongside LuLu on the grounds of shared visions with customer-centricity and long-term outlook being the heart of the business. Amazon always looks out for opportunities that ensure an improvement in their service towards customers, aiding them with additional benefits, this time with the addition of grocery shopping to their platform.

The LuLu Group emphasises customer need satisfaction as their core priority by adapting their business model to their evolving shopping preferences. The conglomerate communicates its excitement to work with e-commerce giant Amazon. It aims to conjoin the advanced technological capabilities of Amazon with their years of experience, looking forward to connecting with customers over UAE.

According to research by PYMNTS, a global leader of data and news on payments, retail, fintech, financial services and digital economy and Cybersource, a system software company headquartered in California, United Arab Emirates, is a country open to mobile-assisted commerce. The research titled ‘2022 Global Shopping Index: UAE Edition’ provides the observation that over 60% of consumers in the country have used their smartphones at least once during their most recent shopping experience, be it online or in-store.

This e-grocery store stride will enhance Amazon’s footprint in the Middle East. The company has recently opened a storefront for Egyptian handicrafts. The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia purchased a lot of Amazon stocks earlier in 2022, making the investment worth millions of dollars.

LuLu has been planning to open 91 hypermarkets from 2020 to 2023 as a part of their expansionary spree with a $2.9bn investment to aid the upgrade of retail networks. Their chain super and hypermarkets exist in 12 countries, including the GCC, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and Egypt.
